Show Roland the Red CARD
They want Roland out!!!
Fans of Charlton Athletic and members of supporters’ group CARD (Coaltion against Roland Duchâtelet) threw plastic pigs on to the pitch to protest the way their Belgian owners are running the club. Owner Ronald Duchâtelet and Chief Executive Katrien Meire bore the brunt of the criticism. Coventry City fans also have experienced hardships under the ownership of SISU and did the same.
The disruption resulted in 7 minutes of stoppage time, in a game which Charlton Athletic won 3–0 to record their first win in 2 months, and only their third of the season in the SkyBet League One fixture.
Chants of “We Want Roland Out” and “We Want SISU out” were chanted by both supporters throughout the game.
Charlton vice-captain and Right-Back Chris Solly tweeted that if the result is 3–0 every time, supporters should bring their pigs to the match more often, in a move likely to upset the owners of the once established Premier League club.
This is not the first time matches at The Valley have been disrupted either, with beach balls thrown on to the pitch in a live televised fixture against Middlesbrough, and a pitch invasion against Burnley after Charlton were relegated to the third tier for the second time in seven seasons. Duchâtelet, a former Belgian senator, left Belgian club Standard Liege because of fan pressure, and fans of the Addicks will be hoping for similar results.
Further protests are planned for the next home game against Chesterfield.
