Our radio show came back today.

We decided up on much deliberation to use Cannonball by The Breeders as intro music.

I love that intro. Cracking bass and drum playing to set up the guitars and vocals. Kim Deal is also a tremendous musician. Her departure from Pixies ruined the band. Although I do think Indie Cindy is a good tune. Her song writing is superb and her bass playing is too a really high quality. She is definitely in my top 25 favourite bassists of all time. Doris Yeh is also probably the only better female bass player than her, in my opinion. Personally I rank Yeh behind Cliff Burton, Flea and Gene Simmonds and 4th in the overall rankings.

We also visited The Guardian at Kings Place. We had a talk from journalist Jon Henley. It was an interesting talk which highlighted the changing face of journalism and the need to continually publish work to break into the industry. Journalism is a lot more inclusive too, the audience are involved, they can let you know if you are wrong.

At the same time, it is now easier to find stories as it’s easy to get connected to people.

Xabi Alonso has confirmed he will retire at the end of the season. The Spanish midfielder had re-ignited his career at Bayern Munich and at 35 is still producing top class performances. He has also played under many great managers in his career and I would expect him to one day go into coaching or management himself. The way he plays shows a good understanding and intelligence, I think he will make a good manager.

He certainly deserves to enjoy his retirement. He has had a remarkable career, glittered with silverware.
