Daily Musings — 2nd March 2017
So I was out for most of the day.
The afternoon I spent at the Art of the Brick, an exhibit for Lego DC characters. The artwork was very good and I definitely enjoyed it — though I expected more from my £10. I got a decent poster of Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman in comic book form to go with my laptop screensaver from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Again, I prefer DC’s comics but think Marvel do films better.
It does take you on a bit of a nostalgia session. I enjoyed superhero films and animated shows when I was a child. I learnt a lot about morality from watching these and I guess it works as an escape from reality. After a superhero film nowadays, I take time to reflect as the allegories are often quite clever. X-Men tells you the story of the civil rights movement. Indeed in The Dark Night, a conservative capitalist Batman takes on an anarchistic Bane. That’s not even my trying to score political points, it is actually the story.
We then went on to the ITV Studios, but we didn’t have priority tickets, so we were not let in. We spent about 15 minutes walking around the riverside with my friends shouting out random words such as “Pub”, “Pret” and “Keanu”. Because you know, you can never have enough Keanu Reeves in your life. I never even found out what we were supposed to watch, something comedic.
The pub was great. We had a couple of sing-songs including “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt, “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles, “My Humps” by the Black Eyed Pies, “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen and the theme song of The Scooby Doo Show. We’ve decided to do Scooby Doo for Halloween. Looks like I’ll be Daphne Blake. Anyone know where I can find a purple jacket, purple leggings and a green ascot? (A friend politely informed me “it’s called a f**king ascot — not a necktie”). There’s something innocent and juvenile about a sing song.
The fun stopped when we left the pub both of my friends were rather drunk. I won’t say what they did but I basically had to babysit the two of them. Let’s just say Velma Dinkley lost her glasses. I still can’t work out what happened — I’ve seen them drink way more and be fine. They sobered up quickly though. Still an annoying end to a decent night.
