A hospital in Denmark has granted a patient’s dying wish of having a cigarette and a glass of wine.

The patient was too ill for surgery and is likely to die very soon from internal bleeding.

If you have to go out, might as well do it with a smile on your face. I guess that’s what happens. As a firm believer in Aristotle’s Virtue Ethics, I can get behind the actions of hospital staff.

In Chicago, a doctor was assaulted on a United Airlines flight.

At the request of airline staff. The flight was overbooked, and everyone turned up. They thus forced the doctor to leave, despite the fact he had to see his patients.

This is stupid. Airlines need to stop overbooking flights. There’s a reason people book flights at certain times. They want to be back home at a certain time. He paid to be on that flight. The airline are clearly at fault here.

On this day, 46 years ago, a US table tennis visited China, as part of Nixon’s diplomatic mission to warm ties between the two nations. I have always maintained sport is a great uniting force and people should remember that today. It is an opportunity to put aside differences whether ideological or whatever and compete with respect and dignity.

It worked, a year later Nixon himself visited Beijing and a Chinese team toured the States, igniting a short lived crazed.
